Forest Fires

A short post about forest fires here in Japan. Even though we’ve decided to hunker down here at our homestead on the Nobi Plain, I’m still scouting out wooded mountain land to buy. I don’t think I’ve discussed this yet in any other posts, but the plan is to work the homestead here while simultaneously having a forest farm up in the nearby hills. I’ll get into the details in a later post. Anyway, if I’m to practice silviculture and forest gardening, I reckon I should be somewhat up to snuff on the forest fire situation here in Japan. What?!!? Wet and green Japan has forest fires, you say?

Well, apparently they do. After all, Japan is one of the most densely forested countries in the world!. After seeing this picture a few days ago over at ‘Alive in Kyoto’ blog, I’ve done a modest amount of research on the subject of forest fires here in Japan. To sum up all my research in a few sentences or so… I would say forest fires are not a major problem, just as I thought, however they do happen from time to time. So for those of you living in or next to the woods, take care.
